Devon Car Detailing

For all your car paintwork polishing and detailing needs!

Here you will find some records of my work (see links along top bar), along with contact details if you are interested in getting your car done.  Based in Exmouth, Devon, I charge £24 an hour including all materials provided by myself.  Fully insured to drive and work on customer vehicles.  I operate out of a unit in Exmouth town centre so the weather doesn't matter.  One day's use of the unit is £20 flat rate.  However I could come to you if  necessary - Exeter, East Devon and surrounding area.  I am happy to inspect any car brought to me free of charge.  Although I can do simple valeting and car cleaning too, I definitely prefer the paint correction and maintenance side of this work.  I don't mind if you want to enquire about a simple "in and out" valet or refresh job.

The cleaning process needs to be thorough which is why I always clay my cars using the finest Bilt Hamber clays which lifts contaminants from the paints surface which would usually cause more harm than good when polished over.  Once an ultra smooth paint surface is obtained, I tape off plastics, and set to work on machine polishing.   Before the actual machine polishing I take paint depth readouts across the entire car to look for potential thin paint, repainted areas, which might need special attention.  This is a must before any polishing is done.

This stage removes swirls from the paint surface and generally smooths off the lacquer to provide a smoother shine/reflection.  On unlacquered surfaces, this will remove sun bleached paintwork to bring back original glorious paintwork hidden underneath.  Heavier scratches will not be affected by machine polishing.  However I am proficient at wet sanding which involves sanding down the lacquer around scratches to remove them, then refining the paint up with higher grades of paper, before a final polish to shine up again.  Scratches which are deep enough to catch a fingernail hard are generally beyond my rescue and require special treatment by a chip removal company, or a bodyshop to fully respray the affected area.

To finish the process, I seal in the freshly polished paintwork with a heavy duty wax and/or sealant which lasts several months.
